Luxury Yacht Charter Etiquette: Your Guide to On-Board Dos and Don’ts

Chartering a yacht is an exciting experience. You get to taste the luxury of being at sea in an amazing yacht, along with the amenities provided onboard. For those who are chartering a yacht for the first time, it’s important to know the general etiquette onboard.

You don’t have to worry, our team has put together a list of etiquettes to keep in mind before your exciting adventure:

Be respectful to the crew

The crew serving you while at sea should be treated with the utmost respect. They’re valuable employees of the company and work very hard to keep guests satisfied. Staying on their toes all day to cater to your demands, they deserve to be treated kindly and respectfully.

You’re free to give them a tip at the end of the journey for their hard work.

Keep the crew informed

One of the best parts of having a yacht charter is the ability to entertain in a luxurious way. However, you do have to plan it in advance. Don’t show up with a large group of friends on the yacht and expect the chef to be able to cater to your demands. The crew is only prepared to accommodate a few people at a time.

If you do plan on inviting a few extra guests, make sure you inform the yacht charter company in advance. This way, they’re able to make all the necessary changes required.

Ask whether pets are allowed

Don’t just assume that your pet can come along on your yacht trip as well. Always speak to the yacht chartering company first, before you bring your pet along. Some companies might have a no pet policy, while other yachts welcome furry companions onboard.

If your dog is allowed on the yacht, make sure you know how to take care of them while at sea

Follow the bare-foot rule

When boarding a yacht, you need to keep your shoes away. Most yacht charter companies have a no-shoes rule on their yacht. Heels and black soles leave scuff marks that are difficult to remove and can affect the overall appearance of the yacht.

Most often, there’s a “bare feet” rule outside the cabin and some companies even ask you to keep your shoes off the deck too. Make sure you follow these rules at all times.
