Tips For Stellar Shots On A Summer Cruise

It’s always fun to take down shots while you’re at the sea on a cruise. Be it shots of vodka or shots of you looking out at the sunset from the deck, it should make you live that moment to the fullest.

Most people come back from trips full of regrets instead of memories because they don’t have a set of memorable pictures of the highlights of the trip to remember it with. Even though it sounds like a superficial idea and some would argue that it’s better to just enjoy the moment than worry about your camera focus, it all seems worth the effort months later when you’re reminiscing.

If you’ve ever tried catching the best sunset moment on camera, you’d know it’s almost impossibly hard to capture the perfect shot without missing the best light the first few times. You need to be well-prepared and adept at handling the camera to click the best shot in time.

Here are a few tips to help you make an album of Instagram-worthy pictures.

Create a Narrative

Create a Narrative

True, the ocean waves and the iridescent skies may seem like the biggest masterwork of nature that you’ve set eyes on, but that image will not be something you’ll miss months after the moment has gone. It’s the company you shared and the jokes you enjoyed in that moment that will make you miss that moment. Pictures that tell a story like the fantasy you’re living on a cruise are more meaningful than plain shots of the scenic beauty. Anything from the breakfast in bed that your SO surprises you with, to the image of falling asleep under the starry night can tell a story and make for a heartwarming memory captured in a picture.

Don’t Limit Your view with Walls

The rooms and spaces inside the cabins may be confined because we have to accommodate all the guests comfortably. That might be a hindrance if you’re trying to capture a panoramic shot of the entire cruise. A good trick is to move out of the confines of your cabin and take the shot from the deck. Stand at the diagonal edge of the deck and hold your camera above your head to capture as much of the scene as possible. Having a familiar face doing something characteristic in that scene will add the cherry on top!

Pick Odd Times

It doesn’t serve well to jump in a crowd of people vying and jockeying for the same position on the edge of the deck at sunset. Thanks to Hollywood chick flicks, now getting a picture with the rising or setting of the sun has become a mandatory #vacay’19 ritual. Although sunrise sounds as romantic as sunsets, not many people will make the effort to get out of bed so early in the morning and prepare their camera for a shoot. If you really want to avail the opportunity of capturing sunrise at sea, you’ll have to go an extra mile while you’re miles from the shore. There’ll be miles to go before [you] sleep because having pictures come out looking as stellar as the scene is a tough job.
