Guide To Dealing With Seasickness

Seasickness can keep you from going on sea adventures. Cruises, yacht trips, whale watching tours, and water adventures are some of the things you will miss out on.

On average, one in three people experience motion sickness. They feel dizzy and nauseous and can also begin vomiting. Seasickness can be prevented, popular to contrary belief.

With a few simple tips, most cases of motion sickness can be solved. Here are the tips:

Reduce fluid intake

Just like any travel plans, you need to make some arrangements in advance. Likewise, before you can go on your yacht trip, make sure you don’t consume fluids or too much food before getting onto the boat.

While on the yacht, make sure you don’t get carried away with food and drink too. Consuming alcohol while at sea can worsen motion sickness.

Chose a seat carefully

When on a yacht, you can always choose an area to hang around which experiences the least motion. You might think that the entire yacht moves just the same, however, staying on the bottom-most deck is always a good option for those sensitive to motion sickness.

Don’t face backwards from the direction you’re heading in

Facing backwards in a vehicle or yacht will make you feel queasy. When chilling in the yacht’s lounge, dining area, or cabin, make sure you’re aware of the direction of travel.

Don’t read when in a yacht

When the yacht is in motion, it’s best to stay away from your books. Yacht holidays are meant to be relaxing, a time for you to unwind and do whatever you like, but reading on a moving vessel only triggers motion sickness.

Isolate yourself from others who suffer motion sickness

Being around others who suffer motion sickness can cause symptoms to flare up with you too. Hearing of someone feeling dizzy or nauseous will surely make you think about your struggles with motion sickness too.

Visit a doctor

Visit a general physician and discuss your concerns about motion sickness. The doctor will run through some steps and ask you some questions to determine if, in fact, it’s motion sickness you’re experiencing. They will then prescribe anti-nausea medications which will relieve your symptoms.

For longer sea trips, you might have to top up on the medication after some hours. Consult your doctor about the duration of the doses.
