Whale watching is one of the most breathtaking experiences you’ll ever get to live through. Watching these gigantic animals up close while they rise and dive in the glistening waters of their natural habitat is both thrilling, and beautiful.
However, if you arrive to a whale watching tour unprepared, things can go down really quick. There are so many things to keep in mind, like the fact that you can get seasick, catch a cold, or even sometimes, not spot a single whale.
In order to make the best of your Cabo adventure, here are a few pointers to help you prepare for your trip.
Timing is everything!
The best time to go whale watching in Cabo San Lucas is from mid November to late April. This is the time when the seas around Cabo are home to the great Humpback and Gray Whales that migrate to the area to give birth to their little ones because of the warmer climate. While the baby Whales grow older and build enough blubber to be able to head back up North, Whale sightings in the area become a lot more common.
That makes mid November to late April the best time of the year to go check out some Whales!
If you’re looking for bookings around this time, we at Cabo Yacht World offer some of the finest luxury Whale Watching tours in the area with tours starting mid November.
Pack warm clothes
The temperature on land can be misleading! It’s always advised to either dress in layers, or throw in a couple of extra sweaters, gloves, and socks in your travel bag. Some conditions that warm clothes (and extra clothes in general too) can help with is sea spray, the fact that it’s always cooler in the water than on land.
In case you are planning your trip in November, keep in mind that the hurricane season in Cabo lasts from mid-May to November. It’s a good idea to also be prepared for unexpected rain and whether changes.
Bring a telephoto lens
If you’re taking your own pictures, you’ll need a good quality telephoto lens to catch the shots if the Whales are too far away. Fortunately, at Cabo Yacht World, we can document your entire trip for you so you don’t have to worry about taking pictures. Just enjoy your trip instead!
